AP Art write up
With this art piece, I made this as the first of my theme because I thought it would be the easiest to recognize. With this, I did a scarier version of the classic movie The Fox and the Hound. My whole theme is to take famous animal movies and do a horrible twist with them to show the meaning of animal cruelty. With this I made the fox and the hound the opposite then what they are in the movie. I'm not done with the full piece but I am happy with this being my first piece because I know I can grow from this.
With this project, I wanted to go all out on this. With my inspiration on the idea of circus animals not being treated as well as you think. Sticking to my idea of taking classic movies and changing the, I thought of the movie Dumbo being the perfect fit. I chose to do the composition I did to show the circus around him and I was going to make sure he looked sad and unhappy like all animals in the circus do. With this one, I'm not going as realistic and I thought this piece would be the perfect one to try out a new style. I am going to be very happy with this once it is finished.
This project was the first project that I was able to actually find out the meaning of all my projects. With this project, it was my first time doing colored pencil. In this project, I wanted to show the meaning of bull fighting based on the Disney movie Ferdinand. In this project, I drew a matador and the bull so show the star attractions in bull fighting. I added the blood to try and get the message across as to how they are treated and how they are killed. This message was able to be illustrated very well due to the gory scene that I had drawn.
This was my airport project
With this piece, I wanted to show the cruelty to race horses. I got inspiration from the movies Secretariat and War Horse .I chose to do graphite and colored pencils. The only part that I colored were the items that were connected together horses are pumped with drugs to run faster which it was I was showing in this piece. When I chose to do this concept, I watched any races to see how the were treated on and off the race track. I created my idea with the idea of all the money and the drugs they pump into the horse to make it the machine they want it to be.
With this piece, I took inspiration from the movie Babe. I was representing the separating of mother and child when they are getting ready to be slaughtered. I chose to do the same idea as the horse which was to color the parts that are connected. In this case I colored the pigs and the piglets to show what was taken away. This piece, I made sure that I tried to show the emotions that the animals feel during this sad time in their life. I made the message sad so everyone can feel that way they animals feel.
With this piece, I took inspiration from Home on the Range. I chose to represent the three cows as how cows are treated in the dairy and beef industry. Each cow has an injury you would see on a dairy cow during milk production. I chose to use graphite and I used colored pencil to darken and lighten the value. This piece took a lot of inspiration to see the injuries that they receive. I chose not to do color for this purely because if I only colored parts of the pice, your eye would go straight to that part. I wanted to make sure your eye looked at the whole picture.
With this piece, I started to realize that the more realistic the art
is, the better the message comes across. When I started to sketch this project, I wanted to research why the tiger population is deceasing and try to send that message through my art. With tigers, they are known for their stripes so I was able to have a lot of fur texture to show their stripes. With their stripes being the prominent feature on them, I made sure that they were smooth and you could identify them. I also was able to add two reasons why the tiger population is decreasing. I managed to create a message that showed multiple reasons as to their decreasing numbers.
In this piece, I wanted to capture and practice more of the background. I was able to venture out of my comfort zone and experiment with more with colored pencils and baby oil. With this technique I was able to create a background that showed the environment that this animal lives in and what is happening to them that creates the depletion in their population. I used colored pencils because I knew I could create great fur texture and I knew I was able to blend it out really smoothly. When it came to the meaning of the piece, I had to incorporate the idea that bears are prize animals , meaning they are killed for their head and fur. I was able to send this message across by making it sad and traumatizing.
This piece is a revision. I started on this piece originally and I didn't like the idea. I thought that the message wasn't clear enough. I had to look back at the movie that I was basing it on and I realized that it looked and felt nothing like the movie. I wanted it to look like the shark was actually in the water which is what happens in real life. Not a lot of sharks are in a tank which is why I changed my idea. When I redid it, I was so much happier with the concept. I was able to understand what the message was. I decided to use acrylic paint since I know it's not my strongest medium, I knew I was able to create a water texture with paint and also to add dimension to the art. I will go back over it with colored pencil to make sure that the darkest parts are the darkest.
